Building YoTopia Together: Your Avatar
Hey YoFans!
Before we jump in, we have a name for the YoTopia apartment complex! It was a close race, but one name rose to the top!

A fitting name for our first home in this new continent!
Before we continue with our normal content, some of you may have spotted screenshots and recordings from one of our internal builds floating around this past week. We had a whole plan for how we wanted to show you this stuff, and somebody beat us to the punch! We're not mad, just a little bummed we didn't get to build up the excitement ourselves and show you a more polished version.
Here's the thing, though - That build? Already old news. Things move fast over here, and what leaked is already behind where we are today. So if you want the real, up-to-date look at YoTopia, keep following this Dev Blog.
Let's get to it.
Built in the Open, Built with You
You told us you'd rather see things early than wait for a polished surprise behind closed doors, and we took that to heart. So what you're about to see is unfinished work. Real, in-progress, and some of it might look different in a couple of weeks. Your VIP votes, your feedback, your ideas. All of it feeds directly into what we build next. You're part of the team.
Your Avatar, Upgraded
Let's talk about something close to every YoWorld player's heart: your avatar.
Your avatar in YoTopia still looks like you. Same personality, same style. But under the hood, everything about how your character moves and wears clothing has been rebuilt from the ground up on a modern animation system.
We want to stress: This is the avatar as it looks right now, in active development. The clothing and hair are just demo assets we're using while we build out the system.
Clothing that moves with you.
In Classic YoWorld, animations can do some weird things to your outfit and certain movements would break your clothing in unpredictable ways. In YoTopia, your clothes are built on a proper joint system. Sleeves flex with your elbows, dresses bend at the waist, and outfits layer naturally without fighting each other.

Your avatar can do a lot more now. The new animation system enables movements that weren't possible before, like actually bending at the waist. Animations are smoother, transitions between actions feel natural, and your character and clothing moves the way you'd expect them to.
Dynamic lighting on your avatar and your outfit.
For the first time in YoWorld history, light in the world actually interacts with your character. This is a big one.
In Classic YoWorld, your avatar always looks the same no matter where they're standing. In YoTopia, light sources in the environment reflect off your avatar in real time. Stand near a window, and your outfit catches the sunlight streaming in. Walk past a lamp, and you'll see the warm glow on your clothes. Your character reacts to the world around them, and the world reacts back.

Once you see it in motion, you can't unsee it. It makes your avatar feel like they actually live in the space. We hope you're as excited to try it as we are to show it off.
And that's just the beginning...
The new avatar framework opens the door to things like visual effects, particle effects, and better animated clothing. We're actively working on it, and there's a lot more on the way.
